Academy Tuesday - Jukebox Musical (Oct. 17, 2017)
We had no musical director this night, so we had to sing to karaoke tracks and work them into the scene. My scene was about a guy who was cynical about online dating, but the woman of his dreams (a coworker) was right under his nose! (Unfortunately, the video starts halfway through the song, but the part you do get is the most fun!)
"Sincerely, Barry" - Improvised Musical (Nov. 21, 2017)
Our first go at our long-form musical show "Sincerely..." An audience member gave us the name of someone she cared about - her cat, Barry - his age - 6 - and where she met him - a basement apartment? So, thus began our first musical about a cat named Barry, set in the year 3006(!). The first 3 songs went well, then it went a bit off the rails narratively. Still, a good time was had by all!
"Sincerely, Justin" - Improvised Musical (Nov. 28, 2017)
Our second - and officially final - go (but we will be back!) at a long-form musical show, 'Sincerely...' The audience contribution this night: the name 'Justin', the number 2, and the Arctic. Thus began the adventure of a young activist, Justin, on his 2002 journey to the Arctic to "Save the Earth... Or Die Trying"!
Singing Out - Pride Week (June 28, 2014)
This was a (to me) hilarious fluke. I was attending a community concert with friends as part of Pride Week, when I found myself shouting out the correct answer to a trivia question about The Rolling Stones' 'Anybody Seen My Baby'. The song was - completely by accident - so melodically similar to K.D. Lang's 'Constant Craving' that they had to give her writing credit. I was called out of the audience and up on stage to sing it. They thought they'd do just the first verse and then let me go, but - hell, no! - I was gonna sing the whole damn thing! It was a blast.
